The objectives of Secondary Teacher Education Course (B.Ed.) are to enable the teachers to understand the process of socialization, equip them to acquire competencies relevant to stage specific pedagogy, curriculum development, its transaction and evaluation enable them to make pedagogical analysis of the subject they are to teach at the secondary level. It also aims at developing creative thinking to reconstruct knowledge among pupils, acquaint them with the problems affecting educational system and class room situation. Further more, the teacher training programme enables them to utilize community resources as educational inputs, develop communication skills and use modern information technology for class room purposes; develop aesthetic sensitabilities and acquaint them with research in education, including action research. The B.Ed course is a pre-service professional programme for one year duration comprising of the theoretical concepts, school experiences and participation in co-curricular activities

The teacher education curriculum broadly comprises of the following:

  • Conceptual foundations of education
  • Methodology of teaching school subjects
  • Practical work relevant to practice teaching
  • Internship / practice teaching

The schedule of the B.Ed programme cover the following broad areas:

  • General orientation
  • Theory, practical & laboratory work
  • Teaching practice of 30 lessons
  • Co-curricular activities/ community work
  • Evaluation

The suggested duration & distribution of the activities over an academic session which provide the broad contour of the academic calendar are as follows:

  • Week 1 - General orientation to the B.Ed course
  • Week 2-13 - Theory & practical works relevant to practice teaching & Training and organization of CCAS
  • Week 14-15 - Preparation for internship/ practice teaching in schools
  • Week 16-21 - Internship/ practice teaching in schools
  • Week 22-32 - Theory and practical work, CCAS. Seminars, tutorials,Extension lectures, cultural & sports activities, assignments related to theory & class room practical work and sessional tests.
